Say the Sight Words — Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 6, 2026
The short version
Say the Sight Words collects no data. None. The app has no accounts, no analytics, no ads, no tracking, and makes no network connections of any kind. It listens to your child read — and that listening happens entirely on the iPad. No audio is ever recorded, stored, or sent anywhere.
About the microphone
The app’s whole point is hands-free reading: your child reads a flash card aloud and the deck advances by itself. To do that it asks for microphone access and runs a speech recognizer on the device itself (the open-source Vosk engine, bundled inside the app). Audio goes from the microphone to that on-device recognizer and is discarded in the moment. It is never saved to a file, never transmitted, and never shared with us or anyone else — the app has no network code to send it with.
What the app does not do
- No data collection. We do not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal information — from children or adults. Nothing ever leaves the device.
- No recordings. Microphone audio is processed in memory by the on-device recognizer and immediately discarded. There is no record button, no audio file, no transcript kept.
- No network access. The app works completely offline and is fully functional in airplane mode. It makes no network requests.
- No third parties. There are no third-party analytics SDKs, ad networks, or data processors. No cloud speech service ever hears your child.
What stays on the iPad
The decks your child reads, their best Sprint time, and the app’s few settings (like the sound toggle) are stored only in the app’s local storage on your device. Deleting the app deletes all of it. We never see any of it.
Children’s privacy
Say the Sight Words is made for young children and is offered in the App Store’s Kids Category. Because the app collects nothing, no personal information from children is collected, used, or disclosed, consistent with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and Apple’s Kids Category requirements. The only links out of the app live behind a parental gate.
Changes
If a future version of the app ever changes any of the above, we will update this policy first and note the change here. Given what the app is, we don’t expect it to.
